Graphic T's & Sweat Pants....What Is A Mother To Do?!

I have a child (we won't name names) that is really just OBSESSED with only wearing "A REALLY COOL SHIRT" that "has PICTURE on it." Every morning we are in search of the ultimate shirt....be it a Spiderman, Transformer, Skateboarder, Eagle....you name it- as long as it is not PLAIN or doesn't have STRIPES or is PLAID! It is just "NOT COOL..." so I am told. I have to admint, I've been one of THOSE mom's that always said, my kid is not going to be wearing silly graphic t's....no ask me why. I mean, a cute graphic here & there is always fun & of course I wouldn't take that away from my kid, but EVERY DAY a shirt with a picture on it?! Really? I can handle a "cool" shirt with a graphic- don't get me wrong, but I can't really handle Mickey Mouse, Pooh Bear, or Superman EVERY DAY. Do I just need to GET OVER IT?! Okay, I'm over it, let the kid be a kid!

Now, onto the other issue...SWEATPANTS or as they are known in our home "COMFY PANTS." So there are men out there who are, lets say age 40, who feel that running in the street with tight, yellow sweatpants is okay for everyone to see (my opinion...spare us). There are those men who are in the same age bracket that like to wear their work books & sweatpants to the grocery store with a sloppy-tshirt...again, can we get out of our PJ's to go out in public ( it is 1pm in the afternoon!).....ANYWAY, my point....I am afraid that my same child (as noted above) will be ONE OF THOSE MEN.
I am laughing as I am typing this out, but the reality of it goes like this: Child gets dressed, we have to find pants, socks & shoes that match our REALLY COOL SHIRT and we are ready for the day. Sometimes we make it past lunch (if we are staying home that day) or maybe it is late afternoon (after running errands), but when it is time for him to go potty & relax (maybe watch a show) down comes this child with a new pair of pants on....COMFY PANTS. Sometimes they are sweatpants, sometimes PJ bottoms- but he is comfy nevertheless. EVERYDAY is the same. I am very interested to see how this child grows up! Will he be into fashion forever? Will he be one of those men? Maybe he'll be the 40-year-old that wears the Mickey shirts, yellow sweatpants & running shoes.....Whatever it be, he will BE MY SON FOREVER & I will love him just the same--- with all my heart!

I feel you! I can't get T to wear stripes or plaid or those cute collared shirts. IT's always a big fight. He loves wearing certain shirts and usually it's the same shirt over and over. I have no trouble getting M to wear whatever I want her to wear which is wierd because isn't it supposed to be girls that are the picky ones. Anyway I know what you are going through. except he will wear jeans. Mostly just his 1 favorite pair.

I am so relieved to read this. I too have a picky clothes wearer. He'll cry and say, "I look RIDICULOUS!" You'd think he was a girl with all the drama.

My other one isn't picky about what he wears but wants to wear his Star Wars pj's all the time. He'll come home from school and put them on as soon as he can. When I tell him we're headed to the store and not to put on his pj's he'll argue that he'll get dressed again before we leave.

So glad I'm not alone!!

Happy belated birthday!!! Sounds like you really did have a great day! I want a massage for my next birthday!

I love your cute little musicians. What could be better thanmusic on the water front!

The graphic t and comfy pants post was so funny! One of my brothers wore sweats forever! I don't think he put on a pair of jeans until High school- of course I was at BYUH by then so I could say for sure. Just to let you know- he's perfectly normal now, after intense "comfy pants" therapy that is:)

How funny, JoAnna! I'm sure it's just a phase--when he starts school, maybe he'll notice that all the other kids aren't wearing comfy pants. As for the character shirts, I have to agree with you on that. I really don't like them--and that goes for character shoes, too! You know, the ones that light up on the heel? Gross! It is fun to let the kids choose what they want to wear--Blake usually picks pajamas.

ahhh, i'm with you on the graphic t's and sweats. no pooh or mickey here. my boys wanted john sena shirts last year. i told them that when he pays them to advertise for him then they could wear the ugly shirts!
