Honeymooning In Hawaii....for real!

John & I just got back from a wonderful vacation to Hawaii- just the two of us! It was a well needed break from the kids & it gave us the opportunity to make new goals for our family, reflect on our children and reconnect as a couple. John's family helped watch the kids (thank you again). They were so excited about this, they even packed their own bags before we left.

This year we celebrate out 10-year anniversary, so that is what gave meaning to our trip. When we got married, we were living in Hawaii attending school and had our Honeymoon in Washington....so we thought it would be appropriate to celebrate our anniversary by going back to the place where our love for each other all began.

We enjoyed surfing, John got to go in a dive cage to see the sharks, snorkeling, hiking, eating lots of local food, hanging out at the airfield where John used to fly, sleeping in & going down memory lane!! At one point we got so relaxed (especially with no kids) that we couldn't believe we had 3 little kids waiting for us at home. We really did miss them lots & can't wait to show them the islands when they get a little older to appreciate it all.
Here are some snapshots...nothing too exciting, more just documentation of our time of RELAXATION on Oahu.
We got to go on a date every night! Hence the big smiles...

Enjoying some Matsumoto's Shave Ice. This is legendary on the North Shore. We went there a couple of times....can't beat the price for an AMAZING treat.

Shave Ice with Ice Cream....so refreshing!

Chillin' out near Ala Moana beach park. Enjoying the warm air & surf.

If you look hard, there is a seal sun bathing on the rocks. He was just a few feet away from us as were hiked Kaena Point.
Yea, we finished the hike (one way). It was about 7 miles total.

Ahhh...chips & salsa at Rosie's on the North Shore. YUMMY!

BYU-Hawaii campus. Since we've been there, they have added some beautiful landscape to the campus and the temple grounds. We had to take a picture!

After many hours at the beach, we strolled Ala Moana beach park. When we lived in Honolulu, this was our favorite spot to ride our beach cruisers (bikes) on the trail.
Dole Pineapple Field. I had never been here, so we made a stop to check out all the varieties of pineapples. They have the most amazing pineapple ice cream that we ate too....like I said- lots of wonderful local food to consume!

Pineapples from Thailand. I had no idea that there were so many different types of pineapples. Some were round like a ball, some long....very interesting. I'm sure their tastes are a little different too... I don't know, do you?

Enjoying the sand between my toes.

Laie Point. This is a place we spent many hours while attending school. We always loved watching the sunrise here. It was a beautiful morning!

John chilling out at Waimea Bay.

Sunset Beach. By the end of our trip, the surf got pretty big here.
It is a perfect beach for watching the "Sunset." Another one of our favs.

Another EARLY morning at Laie Point.

We just arrived at our hotel. Notice the wall eaten out by termites....I could write a whole blog just on our hotel, but I won't since I'm sure you get the picture. I'm glad we spent most of our time on the beach! Yuck.
